Throwback Thursday! With no fixtures this weekend we thought we'd remind everyone of some of the cool stuff we've done. Last year was the second iteration of the ridiculously popular Pukekohe AFC Onion Cup.The Onion Cup is the brainchild of our remarkable Coach Wooly. The competition shows the wares of our eldest junior teams in a friendly competition, where the winner may not enjoy their prize! The winning captain is encouraged to take a bite of the trophy - a brown onion! All teams are given their own opportunity to join the onion family, though, with a shallot, a spring onion, and a pickled onion all on offer for the respective captains. This tournament has been thoroughly enjoyed by all teams over two years and is a tradition we're hoping to see continue this year, and that someone takes the mantle, with both teams Wooly coaches being too old now to compete in the Onion Cup.... And they're off!!The Golden Boot race has begun, and it's off to a cracker! The youth players are showing they've got what it takes, taking 6 of the top ten spots after the first week of games.A four goal haul amongst the Pyros' seven sits Jamie on top of the table early. He's being chased by the Panthers Isla, who is the youngest player you will see on this list all season, and Sam, who represents the top of the senior charts. It's the youth showing the way though, as 9 of 10 on the board are all younger than 20 years of age. The elder statesman by far, is Daniel Colville, who at 31 years of age, found the net for OMY, and is the only one holding the can for the 'more experienced' players. The 17th grade are highly represented on the board, with 4 Pyros and 2 Panthers on the board, and Seb Simson, who opened the season's scoring for the Franklin Law Men's First Team, is the unlucky odd one out who missed the board due to his 'S' surname. It wouldn't be the Golden Boot race, without our now annual 'Spanners Watch' 👀Brendan Williams is currently on zero goals, alongside 153 other registered members we track. This technically puts him on equal 13th in the club, but due to our stringent adherence to the alphabet priority, we like to think he is 160th, or 6th lowest place scorer in the club. Your choice as to how you look at it 😏 With no games next week, it's another week at 6th bottom for Spanners... ... See MoreSee Less
Results all along the spectrum in the opening weekend for our Senior and 17th grade teams.17 Pyros lead the way by despatching Western Springs in their grading round, Panthers put Onehunga Sports to the sword in the start to their league campaign, Iron Chins got past Manurewa Gorillas in their first foray into Div 7, and our Women's team have to wait another week before they take the pitch in anger, with East Coast Bays handing them a default win, and an early spot in joint top of the table, second on goal difference. Our Reserves managed to turn a bye into a draw vs a newly entered SAR team, whereas our Franklin Law Men's First team suffered a tough entrance into Div 3. Elsewhere in Div 7 OMY struggled, and Odd Sox suffered their first league loss in over a year after going unbeaten last year. 17 Reds also struggled in their first grading game.As ever, we would like to thank our partners that help us get onto the pitch every week.Franklin LawPAK'nSAVE PukekoheYour Local House Wash & Pest Control Pukekohe Ebbett Pukekohe... After watching the sun shine on a closed pitch last weekend, our Women's team were planning to make the long road trip to East Coast Bays tomorrow. Unfortunately East Coast Bays have defaulted. One positive, they've opened their account with 3 points!#GoMaroon#maroonarmy... See MoreSee Less
