The rain stopped in time for kick off and the Tigers roared from the start with a goal within minutes. The Tigers had no reserves but even if they had none of the players would have wanted to come off. This was a game where everything that coach Peter Sutcliffe has worked on in training came together. Players moved in to space, slick passes were played through and everyone showed dogged determination to run to the very end. Defenders hustled, covered and hustled some more. Passes from the back set up sweeping movements with players calling and moving like seasoned veterans, and there was dynamite finishing in front of goal.  In short this was a great performance. Peter summed it up at half time when he asked the team "what can I tell you to improve your game? Nothing - just keep doing what you are doing, the football is great!"

In a mixed up day for Junior and Youth football the 13th Blue at least gave their supporters a match, and heart failure, before grinding out another win. Read on for the match report full of wind (at least its Kiwi wind - all the match reports seem to be written by our Northern Hemisphere cousins).

This always had the hallmarks of a difficult assignment for the 15th Blue team. An away match against Eastern Suburbs with regular mid fielder and captain Jamie Pegg ,striker Rilee Lesperance and coach Tony Wisnewski missing was a big ask. Add to the mix an accident strewn southern motorway and the stage was set for drama. Stand in manager Roger Goulstone suffered the nightmare of being 15 minutes from kickoff with 9 players at the Crossfields Reserve.Nevermind said the Suburbs coach, we'll wait until the last possible minute, besides, I've got 15 fit players raring to go.  Hang on I replied isn't there a limit of 14 in a playing squad for each match? A shrug of the shoulders and a casual reply about Suburbs being relaxed about things didn't fill us with confidence!

5 minutes to kick off and 2 more Pukekohe players arrived - a starting line up was confirmed, the coaches subbing plan was consigned to the bin, and away we went. The match was a see-sawing affair but the extra weight on one end started to tell. The Pukekohe players were tiring and a steady stream of fresh legs from the Suburbs bench wasn't helping.  Minutes before half time a 12th Pukekohe player arrived, timed almost exactly with a mixed upscramble in front of the Pukekohe goal resulting in the ball trickling into the back of the net.

The 15th Blue team again showed their all round strength in seeing off a spirited Western Springs side 4-1 on the weekend. This is a balanced side with pace and goal scoring ability up front, a hardworking ball winning and distributing midfield backed up by a defensive line that takes no prisoners.

Pukekohe opened the scoring playing into a stiff breeze with a lovely through ball that Gary picked up and hammered into the top of the net. Within minutes it was 1-1 when a huge punt from the Western Springs keeper bamboozled the backline and let the opposition striker pounce for an easy goal. This was the Springs tactic all day, huge goalkicks into a swirling wind. It was fantastic to see our 15 year old players getting under the huge kicks and heading them accurately out of harms way.
