The game was a much different affair than the previous encounter between these two teams. Pukekohe dominated possession and territory in the first half but failed to put away any of the chances created. The Wanderers keeper made some fingertip saves, and the spills he sometimes gave us found no-one following in.

0-0 at half time and the chat was about having a great chance of winning this, we just need to put away some chances and keep it tight at the back.

Puke maintained possession in the first 15 mins of the second spell, and created some chances which again were not taken.

Against the run of play, Western Springs broke via a long ball and the striker chipped Chris in goal neatly from about 25m. Gutted to be down 1-0 when things were looking so promising, the reserves pushed on.

Unfortunately stand in keeper Chris had 2 moments where the slippery ball beat him in amongst his great game, and 2 more goals literally snuck into the puke goal.

3-0 down didn't reflect the fact that Puke played as well, if not better than their opposition for most of the match, but not taking chances was the killer.

Thanks to Mat Nugent for playing his best at right back, and to the Harneiss boys for again stepping up to play for us. Player of the day went to Colin Case who is starting to develop a great combination with JR in the midfield.

We wish Western Springs luck with their challenge for first place, being only 3 points behind 3 Kings Thunder and yet to play them again.

The Reserves next match is against Uni Mt Wellington, at home kicking off at 12:30pm.
