This weekend saw us at Colin Maiden Park against table-toppers Uni-Mt Wellington, looking for a improvement on the 12-0 thrashing that we were on the end of earlier in the season. More changes to the line-up again this week, but nevertheless able to field a full strength squad and looking the get something out of the game ...
This week proved to a very tough game and certainly wasn’t a walkover for Uni-Mt Wellington. However, despite some combative performances the half-time score saw as 3-0 down to the opposition. Despite this we certainly weren’t out of the game and looked to get back into it during the second half. Uni-Mt were able to add another three goals to their tally, but we were able to reduce the deficit courtesy of a rather bizarre own goal by an opposition defender after failing to deal with a Neil Kraakman clearance. A superb long range effort from Peter Sutcliffe saw the deficit reduced further to end the match at 6-2 to the opposition.
Not the result we wanted, but a vast improvement on our previous fixture against them. Great effort against a technically gifted and well organised team, no reason to feel too disappointed. The performances this week will certainly stand us in good stead for the upcoming league match against Ellerslie and cup game against Division 6 Manurewa next weekend.
Player of the Day was Craig Upson, putting in his best performance so far this season. Keep it up Craig, that’s the sort of effort we need every week.
Thanks to both Martin Bennett and Matt Stewart for officiating the first half, much appreciated as always.
