The women's first team took a point from a 1-1 draw with Fencibles United AFC at Riverhills Park on Sunday.

The Maroons recovered from an 0-1 halftime deficit via a goal to midfielder Sarah Holmes mid-way through the second spell.

The visitors could have nicked all three points, as could the home side in what was an even game, but couldn't produce the final ball or telling shot after working posession into threatening areas on a regular basis.

The game marked the senior first team debut for 12-year-old Olivia Willetts who played the entire second half having spent the season training with the first team squad on Monday nights.

In fact, it was Olivia who laid on the goal for her team when the youngster got to the byline to cross for Holmes to turn the ball into the net from eight yards.

Player of the day honours went to centre back Tania Shaw who turned in yet another composed display at the heart of a three-player backline.

The next game for the girls is their New Zealand Women's Knockout Cup second round clash with Papakura City FC at McLennan Park Stadium on Sunday. Kickoff 12.30pm.
