This weekend saw us at home against Western Springs Wombats, marking the start of our second round fixtures. Missing a couple of faces from our regular line-up again this week, we were bolstered by the welcome addition of a few reinforcements from the Over 35s (including the return of 4th Team old boy Mike Thomas) and looked to turn around the 4-2 defeat we suffered against them in the opening game of the season ...
The match itself proved to be a fairly tight affair with both teams looking to create chances and break down the opposition. Although coming close on a couple of occasions and riding our luck on numerous others the game ended in a 0-0 draw. A fair result with both teams battling well throughout the 90 minutes.
Great effort by everyone once again. Player of the Day was Neil Kraakman, putting in a commanding performance in goal.
Thanks to Pete Wild for officiating the first half and also to “One-Armed Jim” Hey, who ran the line-for us despite his injury. Much appreciated guys.
Team: Neil Kraakman (capt), Matt Stewart, Jason Hill, Willy Schoppe, Donald Fleming, Julian Smith, Mike Thomas, Roly McKenzie, Steve Cox, Craig Upson, Sven Ludert, Cameron Williams, Dave Wadeley, Pete Wild
