The Over 35's got revenge for their only loss of the season by resoundingly beating Beachlands 6-0 in the return match, on Saturday.

The Puke boys proved to have a far greater abundance of skill, shooting prowess, luck and waistline.

Tony Woulf got the first after a shot from the edge of the box took a wicked deflection off a defender and sent the keeper the wrong way. He still claims it should not be an own goal.

There was no dispute about the second though. The ref was fully justified to give a free kick on the half hour to Beachlands because a nasty Pukekohe player was mean enough to move in front of the poor, defenceless goalkeeper when he was about to kick the ball.

The free kick was controlled by Davey on the halfway line and lobbed back into the top right corner of the goal from the edge of the center circle.

Lee Du Maurier got the third just before halftime from a quickly taken free kick twenty yards out after John Murdie was brought down outside the box.

Other highlights of the first half included Jim McCormack hitting the crossbar again! If there is a record for a footballer hitting the bar, it must be a tie between Jim McCormack and George Best. Will Jim ever score we all asked ourselves.

The answer was yes, and well worth waiting for. John Wallah got the forth goal for Pukekohe from the penalty spot soon after the restart, and then came that moment.

It was one of those monumental moments that people remember other less important things in their life by. Like I remember the day I first rode my bike without stabilisers, because it was the same day man walked on the moon. Or Lee remembers the first match he saw as a kid at Newcastle United, because it was the same day Sid James died.

I'm sure Brad and Angelina will remember the birth of their first child, because it was the same day Jim McCormack scored a goal.

And what a goal. Jim picked up a loose ball in the midfield, looked up and placed an exquisite chip over the stranded goalkeeper who was left once more grasping at thin air.

That wasn't all. Dave Bernard slipped in another to make it a 6-0 victory and cement our spot as second in the league, one point behind Waiuku.

Jim's goal was a thing of exquisite beauty, crafted in similar circumstances to that of Phillipe Albert's 5th goal v Man U at St James's Park in 1996. Like Phillipe, he had sussed out that the keeper was susceptible to a good chip (Schmeical done like a dogs dinner by Davor Suker Croatia v Denmark) Beachlands keeper by Andy 30 minutes earlier. Unlike Phillipe who raced to the Leazes End to the adoration of the Toon Army, Jimmy's celebrations were watched in amazement by the shoppers in the car park of Pak n Save and by his team-mates keeling over.

Never thought I'd hear Jim McCormick and Phillipe Albert mentioned in the same sentence...largely because Jim's probably the better player.

Nice work Jimbo.
