The women's first team were beaten 9-0 by league-leaders University-Mt Wellington on Sunday in the worst conditions yet of a horrible season weather-wise.

The match was the only one played in the first division as the heavy rain and wind lashed Bledisloe all morning. Great fun!

The Maroons made an equally shocking start to the game when they went a goal down inside the opening 30 seconds after Uni-Mt kicked off and proceeded to wander unchallenged towards the Pukekohe penalty area before firing home.

After that rocky opening the home side came more into the game and began to play the ball around with some confidence but Uni-Mt were equal to everything the ladies could produce and showed why they are the best side in the league to take a 6-0 advantage into the break.

The home side dug in after half time and while conceding three more in the second spell, they held more possession higher up the field and threatened to score on several occasions.

The best chance fell to Zippy after some good work down the left flank but as she arrived late in the box to meet the cross her left foot shot snaked just wide of the left hand upright.

Player of the day went to Rose Kraakman for her non-stop work performing two different roles during the course of the match.

The ladies next outing is against Western Springs on Sunday 7 September at Bledisloe Park.
