The women's first team fell to a frustrating 2-0 defeat at Papakura City FC on Sunday.
After an equally annoying 3-1 loss to the same side in the first round, the team were looking to put in a good showing this time out.
But although the Maroons played some nice stuff in patches, the two scrappy goals conceded in the first half proved too big a mountain to climb in the second period.
The first goal came about through the team trying to play back and across the park into space rather than hoofing it down the touchline. A Papakura striker nipped in and clear through on goal tucked it home.
The second came from an ugly goalmouth scramble that saw the ball ping off the post at one stage before finally coming to rest in the back of the Pukekohe net.
Substitute Sarah Wild and skipper Leanne Dodd were standout performers but player of the day went to centre back Lana Morris for the second straight match for another signature effort.
Rose Kraakman made her return from a long-term ankle problem while the match was the last of the year for Karla Shearer who departs on Monday for another stint at a summer camp in the United States.
The Maroons next match is against Lynn Avon United at Bledisloe Park on Sunday at 11am.
