Different day, different venue, different opponent and the Devilz obliged with great football; yet again in the annals of the unforgiving AFF stats and tables the score will forever belie the show that was. Think Papakura Gulag and you are not wrong…
Desolate and a tad frustrated the Devilz greeted the final whistle, 2-nil downed by the Tigers, that’s the result but not the story of the game, which, in short, went like this:
The Devilz took a fast and furious game to the Tigers and a total of 18 shots more or less directed at the Tigers goal either went agonisingly “close wide” or were miraculously diffused by the good Tigers’ keeper, compare that with a total of 7 (seven) attempts by the Tigers, two of which unfortunately beat the defence and the goalie. Man, Devilz can be forgiven for thinking that there’s no justice for Devilz…
The Devilz showed everything; short passing, dribbling, drawing defenders, switching long balls, one-two touches, ferocious in defence and mostly clever on attack, for 49 of the 50 minutes of play the Devilz displayed great skills and concentration, the two 10 second naps in the first half yielded the inevitable. No happy ending to this chapter but a bold prediction from the coach that the Devilz will eventually, sooner rather than later, exit this period of unjust results.
Admitted, it feels like being trapped in a story written by TC Boyle but, these stories do end, eventually, and the next chapter might be inspired by the fella who gave us this:
“Glory days well they'll pass you by
Glory days in the wink of a young girl's eye
Glory days, glory days”
… and we all now, he’s, after all, ‘THE BOSS’.
On another note;
We wish to thank Caltex and Lynda for supporting our team on match-days again this year with plenty of goodies for the player of the day –Thanks Caltex-.
The Devilz’ motto “… the Sky’s the limited!”
