The women's first team were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Waiuku on Sunday in the latest installment of the rivalry between the two sides.
The goal that proved the winner came mid-way through the first half when the visitors put away a well-taken strike from the edge of the area.
Outside of that effort, there was little real danger to Catriona Bennett's goal other than efforts from tight angles and/or distance.
For their part, the home side played some attractive football throughout the match and despite not getting a result, if that type of flowing possession work is combined with Sunday's grit and effort on a regular basis, the team will be a danger to any side in the competition.
Captain Leanne Dodd took player of the day honours for the second straight week after having an outstanding game as she broke up a number of Waiuku attacks and was the starting point for a number of passing movements up the park.
Meanwhile, Sarah Holmes played her first match for the team in 2008 after returning from Women's Premier League side Claudelands Rovers.
A big thanks to the big numbers of supporters who turned out to cheer on the ladies. Great to see! |
