The 3 and 4th teams combined had a pre season game against Tuakau in spectaclar weather at Tuakau on Saturday 15th.
Matt gave me a ring on Friday night ( the day before the game ) and I was still in holiday mode " We are having a game on Saturday, can Tracey play? "
" AR yep"
" Meet at Tuakau at 10:15, it would be good if you were there too, ok Bye"
Was pretty much how the conversation went. It wasnt untill I hung the phone up that Mrs M said thats tomorrow.
What a day too nice for playing football ,fishing or a cup of tea in a garden bar somewhere would have been preferable, but the thought of 20 or so angry woman and Matt demanding where I was and what I was doing while they ran around in the sun was to scary for words.
At 10.30 we would have struggling for a team, but as always with not much time to spare we had a team and 4 (I think) reserves. 3 x 25 min halfs or qtrs if you prefer was the agreed for the timing (see pic for the meeting)
1st 25- Was a bit slow and everyone finding there positions and different players on there left and right. There were some brillant passes and talking at times that looked like a team that have been playing for years in a league well above what we are are in, proof that training does pay off. Then with the ball going from one end to the other and we scored, BRILLANT and only going trough 3 of our players and finished off by Toni Holmes (I will post a link to the video of it) 1-0 Puke
2nd 25 - The talking stopped, apart form Gina Fabraello ( If have spelled that rong I is sarry) holding the back line and halfs verbally in control, a family trait I believe. 1-0 Puke
3rd 25 - Inforcer 1 (Shona) was replaced by Inforcer 2 (Tracey) in goal. Another goal from Toni Holmes us up 2- zip. Then Tuakau fought back with a nice goal from just outside the box, even the best would have struggled to save that one, one of those that just seem to bounch in slo. o. o. o. o. o.o. o. o. o. o. w........ motion ...........just .........out of reach....
Final score 2-1 to Pukekohe.
Stand out performances by all that took the field and especially those who have not played before.
Bring on the rest of the season.
