With the Over 35's notching up their seventh straight win with a 3-0 victory at home to Western Springs, while Papatoetoe could only draw, the Pukekohe Masters control their own destiny in their hunt for the championship.
The game started in a deluge of cold rain, just right to make the many ex-pat British players feel at home. Just like an August Saturday afternoon on Skem brickworks pitch #3.
The first goal came after neat work by Dave Bernard down the left flank. He cut in and played a perfect ball into the path of Andy Davey who powered in a shot from 30 yards which rebounded in off the inside of the post.
The keeper didn't stand a chance for that goal, but rose to the occasion for the next hour, frustrating the Pukekohe players with a string of excellent saves and interceptions.
The stubborn resistance was broken again though halfway through the second half by some smart thinking by Andy Finlayson, using a defenders belly to deflect the ball past the keeper.
The keeper was well and truly stranded again soon after when Jimmy 'Crossbar' McCormack got the ball in the right hand corner.
The keeper was cought out coming too early to cut out a cross leaving a gap at his near upright, which Jim gleefully exploited, stroking home a long precise shot from outside the box.
Masters of their own domain?
