Leopards 0 : Lions 10 - Co Coach Report
By Mark Edwards @ 12:15 p.m. :: 293 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: Junior Teams

The Lions were back on Bledisloe Park, pitch three, looking weather hardened as the rain lashed down….again. They were up against the Pukekohe Leopards who were enjoying top spot in the standings. The supporters’ enthusiasm wasn’t dampened by the consistent precipitation and they were, as usual, providing great support and encouragement to the Lions. The team pre-match chat was to provide good accurate passing and  don’t pass to a player in a red shirt – the Lions attire was green/yellow bibs as the Leopards played in Pukekohe AFC maroon.

From the whistle, the Lions were sharp and immediately showed good attacking team play by Scott and Matthew, who worked well together to score some great team play goals.  As the Leopards counter attacked, the Lions defence was confident, with David and Sofia showing good defending skills and getting the ball away. Jack provided the first half goalkeeper duties, and managed to change the entire shirt to a muddy brown colour.  Megan commanded her midfield position and as Lochlan came on, the Lions attacking formation strengthened to take the score at half time to: Leopards 0, Lions 8.

In the second half, Keely and Evan were really getting involved and helped create some good scoring opportunities, as well as having a couple of cracks at goal themselves. Conner again showed his determination on pitch and Grace demonstrated her awesome pace, covering attacking and defending play tirelessly.

When the final whistle came, the Lions had scored another two goals to take the score to Leopards 0, Lions 10.  All the players deserved hot showers and chocolate – as the coach roared; they played a good team game combined with great individual performances.

A high five goes to the Mums & Dads who continue their fantastic support for this great team in all weathers……………. and the onerous task of subjecting their washing machines to nature’s earth and changing the colour of the team shirts from brown back to red!

WELL DONE – LIONS ROAR
