Everyone knew it would be another tough match and with slippery conditions underfoot it turned out to be an arm wrestle. The team wanted to play well as a farewell gift to Alec and he had a wide smile when the coach handed him the captains arm band before the match. Although the football wasn't great it was end to end excitement as both teams had opportunities in front of goal. Despite dominating territorily Pukekohe found themselves 1 goal down at half time. A half time talk from Tony where he asked them to close down the space and compete on every ball set up the team for a solid second half. Chances came at both ends and eventually Jamie Pegg twisted and turned in the box and pushed one passed the keeper. Despite sweeping attacks at both ends the score stayed 1-1 to the end.
The day however belonged to Alec - the team presented him with a signed ball after the match and his mum arrived with hot chips for the players. Alec has played at Pukekohe for a number of years and has been one of the charactersof the team - his team mates were sad to see him go and it took a while of standing around talking, hugging and shaking hands before the team dispersed. Good luck in the deep south Alec, everyone has enjoyed you playing in the team!
