The men's first team took a 3-1 win over Metro at Bledisloe Park on Saturday as the side said goodbye to a pair of players.

Pukekohe stalwart Mike Siemelink and Sam Price-Bates played their final matches for the Super Division side as the Maroons ended a three-match winless run.

Dave Allan took his team-leading goal tally to 11 with a first half opener and a second period spot kick.

Price-Bates signed off in style before his return to England with his third goal of the season in a man-of-the-match performance. Joe Morris made his first team debut at left midfield.

Dave Bernard rolled back the years with a substitute appearance and almost had a goal but the veteran striker saw his effort fizz by the left-hand upright after a neat cut-back from Andy Davey.

Although now retired from the first team squad, Siemelink will be available for the first team Knockout Cup squad in their opening match in the Counties-Manukau Cup against Manurewa's Open White side at Bledisloe Park on Sunday 15 July.

Meanwhile, the ladies' first team stayed joint-top of division two with a 1-0 win at Eastern Suburbs on Sunday.

Sarah Holmes scored the only goal of the game just before halftime as "the Whippet" neatly rounded the advancing Suburbs' keeper to stab the ball home.

Kelsey Macdonald earned player of the day honours with a terrific display at left back.

The women's reserve team were 1-0 winners over Bay Olympic at Crum Park with Catriona Bennett on target for the visitors. The win keeps the team just two points adrift of second-placed Waiuku.

The women's third team were beaten 2-1 at Fencibles with Amy Wild scoring the Maroons' goal. Click here for Lee du Maurier's write-up.

The men's reserves, men's third team and over-35s were all postponed.

Good win by the blokes, in difficult conditions. Special mention, for services above and beyond the call of duty, must go to the Lone Spectator!! While all the guys huddled under a nearby tree for shelter, Marguerite stayed pitchside for the duration despite the gales and the monsoon. Marvellous effort I thought (as Mr Benaud might have said)

As one of the guys who sheltered under the tree, I second that call. Quality effort.

I'd also like to acknowledge the service to the first team of Mike Siemelink. Mike has played for our first team for the vast majority of seasons since I began playing senior football as a 16-year- old in 1997. I still remember my first training session with the big boys as he made sure I knew what senior football was all about! Lesson: don't try to turn Simmo...EVER. Thanks for the loyal service, strong aerial ability and passionate play Mike, it was a pleasure to play with you.
