The semi final round of the over 35s knockout tournament was 120 minutes of football played in good spirit by both sides. Pukekohe started strongly and dominated through out most of the match but were unable to score in regulation time. While this would normally cause much frustration to lesser teams the Pukekohe strikers and mid-field kept their cool and kept peppering the Beachlands goal right up to the end of regulation time Man that wind was a pain but wasn't it nice to see our manager finally found the park.
After a short break extra time began with the Beachlands team lifting a gear in both tactics and aggression , After beating the second place getters last week ( Papatoetoe 4-1 ) they now believed they had a chance to knock of the round robin premiers. This was a turning point in the game. This Pukekohe side has proven time and again what the word ticker really means and simply don't lay down for any one. The whole side settled down and started to play the ball out from the back using all of its players to pull Beachlands apart. It was like some one had flicked a switch in Andy Davey's head , He attacked like a Tazmainian Devil and was rewarded with 2 great goals, the second being a classic Andy Davey diving header. Thank god for small mercies wlth so many englishmen in the team we were in deep trouble if it went to penaltys
Congradulations to Richie Sharples for his well deserved player of the day performance.
Thanks to Ants and Mike for refereeing and all of our loyal supporters for turning up.
