The Pukekohe AFC NRFL sides were beaten by Waiuku AFC in the Franklin Derby at Massey Park on Saturday.
Waiuku skipper Cody Ralph opened the scoring after 20 minutes when his corner made its way beyond Pukekohe AFC keeper Trent Hirst and nestled into the back of the visitor's net. Hirst's day got much worse 20 minutes later when he suffered a broken leg before halftime in a challenge with Waiuku's Derek Sinclair and had to be taken away to hospital in an ambulance.
Twenty minutes into the second half the home side scored twice in two minutes via Robbie Leonard and Ralph. The visitors pushed players foward in an effort to get something from the game and Waiuku took advantage with three more goals in the final stanza.
The first came via Wayne Trout's shot in the aftermath of a Waiuku free-kick which hit Pukekohe player/coach Steve Upfold and looped beyond the helpless goalkeeper Andre van Lieshout.
Jamie Pegg added an 87th minute effort before stoppage time substitute Elliot Crean found time to complete the scoring.
Pukekohe debutant teenager Matt Grantham was the Maroons' standout performer on the day for a lively effort up front.

Meanwhile, the NRFL Division 1 Reserve League side fell 1-0 to Waiuku in the day's early game.
Waiuku scored in the fifth minute via Elliot Crean for the game's only goal.
Pukekohe striker Jack Crane had his strike ruled out for offside.
This weekend is a double header weekend with matches being played on Saturday (v Tauranga City Utd AFC) and Monday (v Western Springs AFC). Both games are at Bledisloe Park.
Saturday's clash with Tauranga does not include an NRFL Division 1 Reserves League game.
