The women's first team were beaten 1-0 by Manurewa AFC at a blustery Memorial Park on Sunday.
Despite enjoying a large share of possession, the Maroons were beaten courtesy of a second half goal which came via a mistake as they tried to play out from the back.
Olivia Willetts (12) and Hannah Kraakman (13) both started the match for the Maroons while Courtney van Lieshout (14) made her debut for the women's first team as a second half substitute.
The Maroon side created a host of chances but couldn't apply the finishing touch and the closest they came to scoring was Olivia's first half effort which struck the crossbar and a second half goal mouth scramble after some good lead-up work in moving the ball from their half into the Manurewa penalty area.
Player of the day went to stand-in central defender Karla Shearer for a typically superb effort in winning possession and then starting attacks with a crisp pass.
The girls' next game is against Three Kings United at Keith Hay Park on Sunday. Kickoff 11am.
