The women's first team fell 3-2 to Eastern Suburbs AFC at Madills Farm in glorious conditions on Sunday.
Rose Kraakman scored both goals for the Maroons in an entertaining match played in bright sunshine on a superb surface that see-sawed throughout with both teams creating chances to score on a regular basis.
With the Maroons 1-0 down after half an hour, Rose levelled the scores with a sharply hit volley from the edge of the area after being released by daughter Nicole.
Suburbs then scored again shortly after to make it 2-1 before Rose popped up on the end of a Hayley Smith through ball to once again bring the two sides even.
Auckland Football U16 representative Alisha Lovrich scored the game's final goal with a neat turn and drive in the penalty that left Maroons' stand-in keeper Sarah Smith with no chance.
Both sides had opportunities to add to the scoreline during the second spell, with Sarah Holmes having a couple of powerful drives saved, but neither could find the final touch at the right time.
Player of the day went to Rose, not only for two superb finishes, but also the quality of her work in possession and off the ball as well.
The girls' next outing is against Bay Olympic in the first round of the New Zealand Women's Knockout Cup competition on Sunday at Bledisloe Park. Kickoff 11am.
