The nicely overcast conditions made way for unwelcome heat by the time the game was due to start at 12:30pm.
With Matthew Goulstone and Colin Case called up to first team duty, the reserves had a couple of positional changes for this game, along with Eddie Bignell coming back into the fray for a stint off the bench.
The game started evenly (as all ours seem to) and it felt early on as if this would be the game where we get back onto a winning way. Problem was Three kings wern't going to stand by and let us win, and after about 25 minutes some poor marking and failing to win challenges saw us concede the first goal.
We had chances to level (or even take the lead if we were clinical) before half time, but the Three Kings keeper found little to trouble him.
The half time chat was basically that we were NOT going to lose to a team that played the way they did, and that we had to muscle up, win challenges and put away chances.
The first ten minutes saw us do just that, with Jack Crane breaking through from his midfield position and scoring from an acute angle to equalise, and add to take his tally to four for the season so far.
The problem was, that we failed to take any further chances and a few mistakes in the back line put us under pressure. Eventually Three Kings took advantage of this and put away 2 more goals.
The main thing to come out of the game, which was put to the team at training, was the need to 'harden up' all over the field, and to cut out the basic mistakes. Tuesday nights 3-touch football was great, so maybe we'll insist on that for Saturdays game!
Next game is at home v Central. Kick Off 1:00pm.
