Weeks and weeks ago, the pools panel gave the O'35s the away win, when the fixture was originally postponed. Driving to Murdoch Park I felt our proud unbeaten record could be in jeopardy......if anybody had said that we would drive home with a 6-1 victory under our belts I would have sent them to the same place that Gazza goes to frequently at the moment.
In a nutshell, we were brilliant.....No 1 pitch...top condition....perfect for knocking it about. 10 minutes in, the ball pings around the Toey box, Fabs cracks it in...1 zip.....
5 minutes later, Toey whip the ball into our box, Andre comes to punch clear and gets taken out with the most sickening challenge I've ever witnessed on a football field. In short, their number 10 could have killed him. He took Andre at full force with his elbow, knocking him out and fracturing his cheekbone......did the big Dutchman come off?....did he bugger.....he rinsed the blood out of his mouth, got his senses back and then proceeded to have a blinder. 2 minutes later he pulled of a wonder save, 2 minutes later he made an even better one.....the stuff of legends!
To make matters worse for the hosts, we extended our lead when Andy Davey raced clear and finished neatly putting it between the keepers legs....
On the half hour mark we made it three when Dave Benard tucked a penalty away after Wayne Roach was tripped in the box....
Their number 10 was throwing himself around, as Toey had all the possession and territory, but our fantastic defence dealt with everything they chucked at us.
Just before half time, they pulled a goal back when they smashed in a beauty from thirty yards that dipped over Andre.
3-1 at the break.....the next goal would be crucial.
For the next 15 minutes they pummelled us, putting two easy headers wide of the post...how would they live to regret them...
In classic counter attacking style, Andy Davey broke down the left, their defence chased me, freeing up the route to goal for the Ormskirk hitman "Go for Goal" I screamed at him...he did just that lashing a skimmer that swerved round the keeper into the net.....
Toey still thought they could get something out of the game and piled forward.....I have never ever seen a better defensive performance from Tony Davidson, Dolly, Gavin Mc and Mark Harvey....they were truly outstanding.....
With their approach, big gaps started appearing all over the field and we took full advantage with a painting by numbers 5th.......Fabs wins challenge, the Harveymeister plays a beauty down the line for Andy D, who plays the ball perfectly into my path....the keeper comes racing out....all I have to do is put it past him.....no problem....the weight of the shot was perfect as it rolled majestically into the net as their centre half chased frantically to clear....in vain.
George should have made it 6 soon afterwards, however he was fouled when he was clean through. Woulfy blew for the free kick on the edge of the box.....Fin raced up to it and tried to take a quick one into the empty net....too quick and the Toey defender got a toey to it and blocked it....
Russell Whiter then had a chance to add to the scoreline, but instead threatened NZ591 which was coming in to land.
The cherry was finally placed on the cake when I whipped in the sixth direct from a corner.....such was the incredible spin on the revolving Tag ball, it completely deceived the Toey keeper to nestle sombrely in the back of the net.....ahem!
A footballing masterclass....Dave B and Fabs were incredible in the middle of the park....complemented by Pete Clark, Wayne and Phil Taylor out wide.....Woulfy, thanks a bundle for reffing
Andre what can I say.....they don't make them much tougher than that.
