The Devilz arrived in Beachlands Maraetai this morning in good time and prior to kick-off the team was in a buoyant mood.
When the ref whistled the game on it became clear that only one team showed up for the first half and, tragically it wasn’t the Devilz. Two soft goals in the span of 50 seconds after 10 minutes of unorganised ball chasing saw the Devilz steering down the barrel of an ugly defeat. The Warriors were on a roll and they continued to exploit the Devilz’s apathy in this first half. After 17:30 minutes of the first half the score was 3:0 to the Warriors and this game was heading for a hiding….
The Devilz’s somewhat got the wake-up call and managed to hold out the Warriors for the remainder of the 1st half. Largely due to The Terminator living up to his alias and terminating some crystal clear chances of the Warriors.
The half-time was an understandably subdued affair, the coaches tried to perk up the team for the second half and the focus was very much on finding a bit of self-belief, for 25 minutes of no-show can be an awful long time….
When the second half was whistled on, oh wonder all of a sudden two teams turned up… an entertaining game of football developed and the Devilz managed to draw the second half 1:1. Having had the better of opportunities and possession one felt that this could and should have been a much closer outcome for the Devilz, alas; as they say you can’t fit a whole game of football into one half.
The Devilz will reflect, regroup and rally for next week’s local interclub derby against their friends, the Sun Strikers, a match which will surely produce plenty of excitement, that is, if both teams show up on the day.
On another note;
We wish to thank Caltex and Lynda for supporting our team again this year with plenty of goodies for the player of the day –Thanks Caltex-.
The Devilz’ motto “… the Sky’s the limited!”
