After a slow start the girls defended as much as they attacked.
The first goal was all class when after 7 minutes Natalie crossed along the edge of the box from the right hand side and Sherrie showing her true skills placing the ball past the keeper into the back of the net.
Eastern Suburbs squeezed a rare mistake from Puke's defensive linescoring an equaliser in the 13th minute showing why the were unbeaten in the championship to date.
Sherrie repaid her debt to Natalie when just 2 minutes later she sent a screamer through the centre of the opposition box to Natalie waiting on the far post who finished with sublime skill to send the crowd into ecstasy.
Possession went end to end but was cleaned up by either our defenders or at the other end a gallant tireless effort by the opposition goalkeeper.
A trip from behind saw the first free kick of the game. Renelle stepped up just inside her half and sent a beautiful ball between all players, perfectly placed for Sherrie to slam home her second.
A rare mistake by the opposition keeper just before half time saw her pick up a pass back meaning an in direct free kick for Pukekohe (the third of the year) and as with the others this season Pukekohe were unable to capitalise.
With defenders and mid fielders Renelle, Kendra, Haley, Hanna, Rachel, Kate and Lieselle all keeping the opposition at bay, keeper Amelia had but 6 touches of the ball.
Half Time 3-1. But we were no way safe with that score line.
This ref was supposed to leave by 2 but stayed till 10 past as he was over awed with the way the game was going.
Confidence oozed through the team now and with Kristy moving to defence and doing an excellent job shutting down the star of the opposition.
A header from Amelia at half way split open the defence giving a straight run to goal for Natalie to get her second.
Unfortunately I was unable to see the final two goals however Mrs Ref tells me Natalie scored her hat trick from close range and finished the game with a goal kick collection at the edge of the box. Final score 6-1
Natalie 4 goals
Sherrie 2 goals
Merit went to Haley
Player of the day was Kendra
The win keeps Pukekohe all but champions with Manurewa downing Waiheke 4-1. We play Manurewa at 12 this Saturday at their place. A win there should guarantee we take out FIRST place this season.
