13th Blue bombard Drury 8-1

Pukekohe 13th Blue looked fired up from the first whistle and within minutes Drury knew they were in for a long, uphill struggle at Bledisloe Park. Drury looked like a team on growth hormones with height and speed across the pitch, but that counted for little against a Pukekohe team who were on top of their running and passing game.

Pukekohe were a team of thinkers, looking up for support players and pushing some sweetly timed passes through for the strikers to pick up. Corners were crisply struck and dropped into the box, players were enthusiastic and ball hungry - everyone had a nose for goals.

Joshua, Kieran, Zac, Nicholas and Eliah worked well in the backs coping with the size and speed of the Drury strikers. Steven, Jonathan and Gavin muscled up in the midfield and challenged  everything. The platform was laid by the backs and midfield which allowed the strikers and wings the freedom to set up play for each other and hit the goals. Darren, Renee and Callum were strong and fast out wide and consistently played in great balls for Brandt and Lathan to pounce on.

Darren and Brandt both struck well deserved hat-tricks and goals to Jonathan and Steven rounded off a very solid victory.

The score line of 8-1 doesn't reflect the fact that the Drury strikers created several scoring chances in both halves. Jacob in goal proved again how good he is on reflex saves as he parried several powerful shots away and dived bravely at the strikers feet to block a goal attempt.

Today Pukekohe 13th Blue showed what they can do and how they can combine to create goals - now the challenge is to carry this through the rest of the season. This is a team of enthusiastic footballers who are benefitting from Manager/Coach/stand in Coach/ I will manage but not coach/ Teo's no nonsense approach to the game backed up with some pearls of wisdom from Dolly.

Go 13th Blue!!!
