5 Aside Tournament

We’ve been lucky with the weather so it looks like we can have that tournament in the last evening of 5 Aside, 13th December.

Here are my thoughts on how it should go:

  • For the knock out I suggest the First Round be fixtures made up of the league winner v bottom, second v second bottom, etc.
  • All the winners of First Round games then carry on with knockout games for the “cup” and the losers of the first game carry on with knockout for the “plate”.
  • That makes sure all teams should get at least 2 games.on the night
  • We’ll treat it as a 32 team league so that will give the top two teams a bye first round. They can have a warm up friendly against each other first round if they want.
  • There will be 5 rounds to fit in:

o   First Round

o   Second Round Cup, Second Round Plate

o   Cup & Plate Quarter finals

o   Cup & Plate Semi-finals

o   Cup & Plate final

  • If a game finishes level in goals and corners – penalty shootout, best of 3, sudden death after that.

Alternative if we don’t think we can get more than 4 games in the evening with possibility of penalties extending games, we could either pre-select cup and plate competitors by selecting top 16 of league for the cup and bottom 16 for the plate and only have 4 games, or have shorter games.

Love to hear some feedback on this. Add a comment to this article, send me an email (andy 'at' cicada.co.nz) or catch up with me on Tuesday after the games. Can usually be found scrounging beer from the boozehags by Field 1.

I'll get the tournement draw made up and posted here probably by next weekend.

Just to be clear... this is a separate cup competition from the league isn't it?
League winners are still league winners... this isn't a silly aussie type finals series.

Yes wiz. Winners of the league get a bus top ticker tape parade down Queen St, Auckland. Winners of the cup get a tractor ride in Patumahoe. Thought you were going to organise that part anyway. I just do the draw ;0).

Thanks for that. Do you know of any cheap open top bus operators? (just in case)
