Old Boys 2 fall in final straight at the races….

We started well and were organised with some firm marshalling at the back from Liam and TD, spirited work in midfield from Marty M, Jon, Mike and Pete, and driving runs at the opposition back four from Ants and Graham. Phil, John and I were doing as we were told by Liam.

Pete and Graham had a number of shots on target during the opening stages of the first half, but we conceded (largely against the run of play) on around 25 minutes. Ants forced an own goal through some persistent pressure 5 minutes later and we went into the break 1.1. With the chances created we, arguably should have been 2 or 3 up.

The second half was fairly even and eventually Bay’s clever use of rolling subs was a constant threat. As we approached the 80th minute a draw looked on the cards and a fair result. Then came a disappointing decision to allow play to continue from an offside appeal. 2.1 down. Marty M had the ball in the back of the net in the closing stages, however, use of the hand called by the ref. Chasing the game we conceded very late to go down 3.1

Well done to all the boys and a good battle. Also thank you to Bay Olympic for their hospitality. My apologies for not doing the speech stuff afterwards, but honours for the day to Liam Moorhouse.

Next game – away 1.00pm KO at Mangere Domain 1.
